Minecraft: The Unofficial Guide To Farming

Hello, and welcome! I am Leafy Kitten, LK for short! Today you get to learn about Minecraft farming. Doesn't that sound fun? Well, lets get started!

Oops, I forgot. I need to write the chapters.

In The Overworld Farming

Chapter I - Crop Farming - Wheat

Chapter I - Crop Farming - Watermelon

Chapter I - Crop Farming - Pumpkin

Chapter I - Crop Farming - Carrots

Chapter I - Crop Farming - Potatoes

Chapter II - Mob Farming - Cows

Chapter II - Mob Farming - Sheep

Chapter II - Mob Farming - Wool

Chapter II - Mob Farming - Rabbits

Chapter II - Mob Farming - Chickens

Chapter I

Now let's start! (by the way, this is part one of the chapters :))

Wheat

Wheat is very easy to do. If your starting, then I totally recommend wheat first. Chop some long white grass stalks to get wheat seeds!

Plant your first crop. Also, if you want to know how to plant crops, go to the headline that says 'How To Plant'.

Watermelon

I love watermelons in real life, not just Minecraft life. So why not add watermelon my list?

First, go into the jungles. Yeah. It's kind of hard. If you want to get normal watermelons, and not plant them, then go into the jungles. I do not think you should go into the jungle just to look for watermelons. And besides, you wouldn't be farming them, would you?

Ok, so you find watermelon seeds in an abandoned mineshaft chest or something. Well, its one of those mineshaft-y things. Then you find some chests. This is how you will find watermelon seeds! Then you can plant them.

Pumpkins

Yay! I have never tasted a pumpkin in real life, but who cares? Go to the same mineshaft-ish place. Look in a chest. There should be both pumpkin seeds and watermelon seeds; then plant the seeds. Remember, pumpkins need a block to grow into.

Carrots

These stink, cause you have to kill zombies to get them. Well, you might get free enchanted diamond armor in the process, so I guess its worth it. Then when you finally get like 5 carrots, plant them. Well, you can save some for yourself, because you need some, right?

Potatoes

I don't know why Mojang liked zombies so much. Yes, you guessed it. You're going to have to kill more zombies for these. You have a 2.5% chance of getting a potato or a carrot. so you're going to have to kill a few zombies for this. The chance is increased by having looting on your sword.

Planting

So, you will need to hoe some dirt. Put it next to the water source. Put light also next to it. Now plant your seeds!

Chapter II

Mob farming. Sounds pretty hard. Well, listen up. You are going to learn. You have to put time and effort into making these.

Cows

My gosh, these have a specific model. I searched it up on google, and literally everyone was putting it in the air, with glass.

First, outline a 5x5 area. 25 blocks. Make sure there are 5 in each row. Make a 8 block high building. Then, make a little hatch in the top, so you and some cows can fit through. Get some wheat from your wheat farm, and breed them. They will produce a baby cow, which can fit through the hatch, no sweat. A normal old, cow would not have survived that landing, even though it is only 3- 4 blocks high.

When the cow is as old as its parents, it will not fit through as easily, and therefor, die. Because you  made the second floor 3-4 blocks high, it will die because it is now old.

You will have to put hoppers to collect the stuff as the cows fall down, and a big chest to collect the loot.

Sheep

Same thing as cows, but let me explain this again. Maybe better, this time. Mark out a 5x5 area, and put glass around all the sides. Then keep doing it until it is 4 blocks high. Then, do the same thing but on top of the glass. And leave a little block open for the trapdoor. Make a third level. Now, lead two sheep into the hatch on the top. (Make sure there is a trap door at the VERY top.  At the same spot as the one on the first floor.)

Breed them with wheat, so they can make babies and the babies fall into the second floor. Wait for them to age up, and then open the hatch. Push them in. They will fall, and therefor, die. Place hoppers below, so you can collect the loot. Place a large chest at the end. Now you have your automatic sheep farm! Did I forget to mention it was automatic?

Wool

This is going to be,  I don't know, easy? Well, lets talk about the materials needed for this project.

So, you need to put grass blocks up 2. Place 3 grass blocks, with one in the middle. Now that you have the grassy things, put your observer on the other side of the grass blocks. The arrow should be pointing away. Above the observer, you need to place down a dispenser.

Put your shears inside the dispenser, obviously! On each side of the 2 blocks, place down the glass blocks, up by 2. And plop one on your dispenser. You also will be putting glass on the opposite side of the dispenser, but first put your little sheepy into the space.

Once you have your sheep, close the opening with your glass. Finally, go to the back where your observer is, and place some dirt down. Go up 2 blocks, and put a piece of redstone above the observer and behind the dispenser.

Now you need a way to collect the wool! Underneath your glass, at the bottom, put a rail. Place your minecart with a hopper onto the rail. Now, you need to place a chest underneath the rail. But wait! You need to place a hopper onto the chest. Now it will work perfectly!

Rabbit Farm

This is not as simple. Get a BUNCH of blocks. I recommend stone/cobblestone, because it is easy.  Place two blocks down, not on top of each other. Put campfires on top of this, and then the fun begins. Put 1 block on each side of the campfires. Then place two blocks up and down. Now that you have a little place to stand, you can now continue. Put two trapdoors on each block that is up. Put two blocks on each side.

Now make a second floor. This is where you will get the babies to plop down in and grow. Now make a third floor! Put a dispenser x2  on the back. Put water in the dispenser. Put a button on the side of the dispensers. This will insure that the breeding works. The babies should drop down to the second floor, and then they can grow. After they grow, open the little trapdoors. Now they can cook in the campfire, so you can get lots of potions and food, and leather!

Chicken Eggs

This is pretty easy. First, find a chicken. Ok, now feed it wheat seeds. Wait! Before you do that, put it in an enclosed space where it can't fly away. Once you've fed it wheat seeds, it will lay an egg. This egg will drop as an item. You can't mine it, but you can just pick it up.

To make it automatic, put hoppers on every block in the room. Put chests under every hopper in the room. Now just keep feeding the chicken wheat seeds, and you will get an infinite supply of chicken eggs!
